VIASAT: aircraft-to-satellite communication

All projects, Completed projects

SASISA (Small-Aircraft Service for Instant Situational Awareness) is an ARTES 20 Demonstration Project for establishing a reliable, affordable and commercially viable airborne sensing service for first responders and other civil security-sector users to supply them with a new dimension of situational awareness information in the most critical initial phase of disaster response operations. In current practice, airborne sensing is a non-real-time activity, with results often only available days later. The SASISA service’s near real-time delivery of georeferenced imagery offers transformational change for improved emergency response, while complying with established operational modes and financial limitations of civil public sector user agencies.
