ARTES Satcom Applications (SATCOM-APPS) projects aim to support design, development and demonstration activities of system and services making use of satellite telecommunications. The scope of the development can be any hardware, software, service or application item aligned with industry plans for future exploitation. A characteristic of the ARTES SATCOM-APPS projects is to assess the effects of the developed product (e.g. a system, or a service) through an extensive pilot with the users.
They are implemented through Demonstration Projects and shall include a pilot utilisation phase, in which the applications are used by one or more end-users in an operational context representing the target-user environment. The objective of this phase is to prepare the Contractor for the provision of sustainable and operational services. The pilot utilisation shall qualitatively and quantitatively prove the overall validity of the applications using satellite telecommunications in terms of:
The project duration depends on the complexity of the activity and is typically between 12 and 24 months.
